Not sure if this is the right forum to place this in...

Is there documentation or process that lays out moving a site locally (from a Mac) to GoDaddy? I noticed that GoDaddy has the installer set up on their end, but once it is set up, what is the best way to move a site out there?

    Thanks,

The process of moving between hosts is described in some of the other forums, as well as recommendations for hosts: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,297.0.html

      P.S.
I wouldn’t recommend GoDaddy, personally. Their site is so cluttered that it’s difficult to find anything and my experiences with their hosting was poor.... too many little wizards and "helpful" installers ironically ended up costing a lot of time.

        Same thoughts here.

I find GoDaddy OK for registering domains but I like to go elsewhere for the hosting. For some reason I like to use separate services for registering domains and hosting sites.

I am now using Hostgator for several sites and so far have had no issues other than the register-globals gotcha...

I agree with the statements made by the others. GoDaddy may be a decent option for domain names, but I think I would rather have a root canal than work with their servers. I tend to hide when one of my clients calls as his servers are a real pain to work with at times. These are the dedicated servers mind you...

Give Hostgator or Site5 a try as both are much easier to work with and the control panel is actually useful. Oh, to answer the original question I tend to install a fresh copy and then copy the site content table from one DB to the other. You can also copy the chunks, templates, tvs, and such if you like.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Unfortunately in this case I have to work with GoDaddy.

There a lot of threads documenting people’s attempts to host MODx on godaddy. Here are a couple of them:

In short, it’s possible, but there are a few quirks to work around.
