    Hello -

    I’m relatively new to MODx, but found I have (with a little help) been able to get my head around most of what I’ve needed to do - until now!

    I’ve have a new project which I’m currently in the planning stages of. Infact its the first real paid-for website I’ve have to produce fin my new freelancing career.

    My client requires around 30 dynamic/ editable pages...  easy enough.

    He also requires an ’client area’ where his clients can ’log-in’ to view messages / announcements and also download files he’s left specifically for them.
    Each of his clients should only be able to see his/her files and announcements.
    I guess kind of a mini asset management or file sharing / messaging section, accessible to select people through the front end of the website.

    In your opinion, what would be the best way to achieve this?
    Are there any snippets or plugins already that can achieve this?
    Should I be looking elsewhere and try to integrate a separate PHP / MySQL ’client area’ alongside my MODx website?

    I’ve just been looking at something called PHCDownload (www.phpcredo.com/) and have it currently running in the Dev area on my site www.steftock.com/dev/credo  (login with client/client). Its kind of does the job I need, but its hugely overkill and I fear the admin backend is a bit too complex / fully featured for my client. I need something a little simpler, where the website admin can easily upload a file and leave a comment with that file. Afterwards one of his clients could visit the website, log into their specific ’client area’ and down the file.

    Any suggestions or thoughts would be huuugely appreciated!  grin

    Many, many, thanks in advance
    Stef

      - I use weblogin snippet [ http://modxcms.com/creating-a-web-user-account.html ]
      with a bunch of other snippets [ http://modxcms.com/resource-listing.html&tags=user+management ]
      E.g. ShowMembers [ http://modxcms.com/ShowMembers-957.html ] and Web-Edit-Profile [ http://modxcms.com/Web-Edit-Profile-Snippet-988.html ] is very nice.

      - But there is also a more advanced snippet/app - WebLoginPE [ http://modxcms.com/WebLoginPE-1593.html ] that handles lot of extra functionality, so you don’t need
      to install bunch of extra snippets to get the same results.

      - Then you can use Jot snippet as guestbooks/message boards for each member and call it on the members assigned home pages. // http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=8743.0

      - For file sharing consider these snippets: http://modxcms.com/resource-listing.html&tags=file+management

      There is so many options that you should try out what works best for you. I have my friends log into one section and clients another one. Friends can edit their profiles
      upload pictures with MaxiGallery, write own blogs with NewsManager/editor, add videos and play with custom fields through eform2db [ http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,8111.0.html | http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/DB_query_and_Placeholders ] and upload avatars, mp3 etc. with FileUpload [ http://modxcms.com/FileUpload-804.html ]

      The most people say go for WebLoginPE but I say you don’t have to. I have taken away country dropdown from websignup form. And instead I assign my friends homepages the same number id each country represent and
      the number its placeholder [+country+] output. That means if you have a link like this <a href="[~[+country+]~]">Member</a> together with showmember snippet will be a dynamic link to the homepage...

      calling a snippet like this:
      <?php
      if(isset($_SESSION['webValidated'])
      && isset($_SESSION['webShortname'])
      && isset($_SESSION['webUsrConfigSet']['login_home'])){

      $loginpageid = $_SESSION['webUsrConfigSet']['login_home'];
      $output ="";
      //$output .= $_SESSION['webUsrConfigSet']['login_home'];
      $output .="[ <a href='[~".$loginpageid."~]' title='' class='permalink'>My Homepage</a> ]";

      return $output;
      }
      ?>

      Works the same but FOR the one logged in user and not the user - you choosed with showmember-snippet...

      Oops! This became very much...  :P

          Thanks for the info mrhaw

          - I should’ve known MODx and a few snippets would be more than capable. laugh

          I’m currently looking through your list of links and snippets in the repository - I find it all a bit confusing so am sure I’ll be back with many questions!

          Thanks
          Stef
