I would really appreciate any ideas on how to do the following...

In my current project the client will upload videos to Vimeo.com and then
the videos can be seen in the clients website via embedding.

I have a "VIdeos" page with a DItto call and it shows all the video pages in reverse chronological order.
The visitor clicks on a link and goes to the video page and can watch the video and some info.

The video page is made of a TV where the video info is entered and the embedding code is in the content.
The client manager just has to enter the video ID from Vimeo in a TV field and it is inserted in the embed code.

    My question:
Right now the only way I know to add a page is to copy a previous one BUT it (obviously) copies all the TV info as well.
I would like a way where the client gets a new page with the contect intact but with the TV empty so she/he just fills the new info.

    Thanks a lot in advance...

//This way you don’t need to copy and paste into [*content*] because you’ll have the code in the template.

Nope, my page and template has the [*content*] tag

        the info on HideManager says....

        Description
Hides the content editor when using a template that doesn’t contain the content-variable.

The idea is that you remove it!! And post your video embedding code right in the template. smiley

You could do what mrhaw recommended, either use a template just for the video section with the embedding code allready present. Or you can use a TV for the embedding code (TVs can be assigned to user groups so that you can make it so that they are only available for users of a specific group for editing but are rendered to all groups in the front end). I use this all of the time to add fields that only an admin can edit.

I often add a ’secret’ TV directly above or bellow the content where i can run Ditto calls or other stuff that I want to keep away from regular users.

[*preContent*] <-only defined user group can edit
            [*content*] <-every user can edit
[*postContent*] <-only defined user group can edit

You can also use a snippet to read if there is a value in a TV and if so render the output.

Or you can do the same thing with PHx (there is documentation in the wiki on PHx but the wiki is temporarily down).

And yet another option is to use a ’default’ document that you use as a mold to copy from where the TV values are blank but the content is not. Name it like "Duplicate Me" and leave it unpublished. Then you can edit the home page of te manager and add a custom button "Add New Video" that would simply duplicate the ’default’ document (there is a wiki on customizing the manager home)

And there is even another option, you could populate the content of the new documents in the Video section by using a plugin.

There are a few ideas, I am sure there are others. Maybe ManagerManager can populate fields.

sorry mrhaw, I misunderstood your idea, but I get it now... that is a good suggestion!

I was thinking on ManagerManager but what you suggest SHane is pretty good stuff,
lots of options. Some are above me but I like the last one of a button in the manager for
the "Add new video" and the unpublished doc...

yes, as always modx has "too" many ways to peel an orange...

I have my work cut out for me, thanks a lot guys...
