    Hi guys,

I have no idea what has gone wrong or where, and I’ve spent hours and hours trying to troubleshoot. The site will not serve anything at all from index.php, and the manager is looking pretty unhealthy (see attached). The only errors I can occasionally get are:

Warning: fread() [function.fread]: Length parameter must be greater than 0 in home/.folly/davidbaskind/stage/mtctest/manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php on line 130

The actual site is here http://www.merrigong.com.au/manager/
There’s a copy of site files and database running here, on a separate server, with the same issue: http://preview.universalfavourite.com.au/mtctest/

Any ideas? Give me anything to try - I’m completely stumped! My client is furious, and I thought we’d done a really nice implementation up until now.

    Cheers,

    (Desparate) Dave

I just managed to change the manager theme to Light and back again - now everything seems to be working again. Does anyone have any idea what could’ve caused this? Scary.

Corrupt cache perhaps. Bad cookies or session.

LOL ... I just had an image of Ryan pointing his finger at a chocolate-chip cookie and saying, "Bad cookie! Bad, bad, cookie!"

If you compare my pics from HS to my pics from today, you’d realize how true that statement is.

It seems like the variable $manager_theme in /manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php had no value when the problems were occurring.

Any ideas as to when this gets populated and what could’ve prevented it from happening? This seem to be the major issue with the manager starting. As far as the site itself, I’m not sure.

If you haven’t upgraded to the latest MODx version (0963) that would be my first step.

                  Hi,

(I’m French, so please excuse my English)

I had the same problem after uploading some new manager themes and trying them.

                  I’ve tried the following :

                  • Logging out / in (actually, rebooting my browser because the logout link was no more visible ) -> No effect
                  • Kind of panicking a bit
                  • Reading this thread
                  • Updating the value of ’manager_theme’ in ’modx_system_settings’ table to ’MODxLight’ (default theme) in the DB via phpMyAdmin -> No effect, updating it back
                  • Hardcoding the value of the $tplFile variable in /manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php (line 128) with the name of my newly uploaded theme -> No effect
                  • Realizing that the login.html file of my theme was a 0 bytes file on the server, re-uploading it -> This was the error, it caused filesize($tplFile) to have a value of 0. I thank Filezilla and my web host for its great connection rolleyes

Everything’s clean now, however I don’t understand why updating ’manager_theme’ in the DB had no effect. It might be a problem of cache or something like that. Anyway, thank you for your help.

                  rafoo

                  PS : I have MODx 0.9.6.3 running

The assets/cache/sitecache.idx.php file contains initial configuration details including the Manager theme to use. I’m guessing that if that points to an unusable theme, the Manager will be unusable and the theme setting in the DB won’t be read. You could probably have edited the theme directly in that file.
