Meta Tags: Names?

Ok, I’ve got another... I’ve actually used Meta tags in my sites... author, primarily, but what purpose does the "Name" column serve? You’ve got the tag (e.g. "author") and the value (e.g. "John Hancock")... where does "name" fit in? Does it ever end up being parsed in the tag? Usually they end up parsing out something like this:


Where "name" is actually the "tag" column. Slightly confusing I guess. Can anyone shed light on this?

What meta you put in and name you can then choose to assign your docs to under META Keywords! Or am I wrong?

Oh jeez.... Lol. Thanks mrhaw. I’ve been staring at database schema on the mysql command-line for a bit too long... sorta forgot how this stuff looks back in the "real world."
