So I’ve been running into a bit of problem with Smart Quotes in my sites.  If a client copies and pastes text from a Word document that is using "Smart Quotes" into the Content area of MODx, the outputted code is messed up ... this is occurring with quotes and apostrophes as well.  So for example, if the client copies and pastes the text from a Word document, and say for example they have an apostrophe from MS Word, the output looks like so:

    child’s (it should be child’s, not child’s)

By the way, I’m using Textile (http://modxcms.com/Textile-Parser-822.html) to handle my text ... I’ve got TinyMCE turned off for the client...that always results in messed up text output.  Anyone else have this problem?  I also ran into to this problem where I upgraded a site from 0.9.6.1 to 0.9.6.3 ... the problem had never occurred before.  But after upgrade the old text that had been there for a year suddenly began outputting the strange characters as shown in the example above.

Not sure it’d help, but you could try changing the character encoding on your database to UTF-8 if it’s not already. Obviously make a backup of everything before you touch it.

Also, check this: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,32330.0.html and the other posts that that one links to.
