A client requires the ability to pick and choose what pages appear in the sidebar per page. The pages are all from the same MODX site and not a third party (ie: yahoo.com, etc).

I created a template variable which was a multiple selectable list item with all the sites content in it, but this is proving way too unmanagable and really unusable. I’ve tried checkboxes but there are just too many checkboxes and don’t know of another solution to solving this.

What I’m after is the ability to pick and choose the pages (sorta like weblink does it) and then save them inside a template variable to be shown on the sidebar.

Is there a solution to this?

Yes, I thought of using a comma-seperated list in a textarea as its the easiest solution.

But the problem is I am concerned that it is not user friendly enough. I’m not sure if the user is going to like entering in numbers.

I can certainly do this for the short term, but is there another widget based solution to this? Perhaps a ’pick a page’ pop-up widget or something like that?

      Thanks

Use a multiple select list menu and have it output a list of documents. You can use Quill snippet or ddTree (both from the same author) to set this up easily.

I have done similar things with this tutorial. The tutorial is for selecting chunks but it works very well also with documents. You can use Ditto snippet to parse a list of documents instead of getChunks snippet used in tutorial.

Thanks for the link as I was after that for another task, however in that example it uses a checkbox and there are too many documents for checkbox.

I wonder if the client might find tags easier. If each page had a TV holding one or more tags, the user could just specify the appropriate tags in one TV that determined what went in the sidebar. If the pages fall into any natural groupings, this would be much more efficient that having to go through all of them and mark checkboxes.

I’ve never heard of the Quill snippet, I’ll take a look at it! Thanks

For my first modx site I used that tutorial (tv-based chunks) and used multiple select menulist. I didnt understand wayfinder
so I created hundreds of side menus into chunks to choose for each page doc! laugh

                  Good ol’ times...
