Hi everybody I am fairly new using MODx and I amdoing my firt installation. However I am getting an Internal Server Error when I go to the installation index.php file. This is what I have done currently:
    - Upload the unzip files to my server ( which is being host by hostgator)
    - Change folders permissions to 777.
    - Go to osmultimedia.com/install/index.php , here where I get the following error:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/2.2.10 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.10 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at osmultimedia.com Port 80

I hope somebody can help my with this.
    Thanks in advance!!!

Are you sure you uploaded all your files to the correct location on the server?

Also have you tried to upload a simple php page such as

      <?php
      echo "hello";
      ?>

I uploaded all the files and folders that came on the zip file I downloaded from MODx download section.
        which are these:
        Folders
        assets
        install
        manager

        Files
        ht.access
        index-ajax.php
        index.php
        sample-robots.txt

I uploaded them to the public_html folder on my hostgator server.

I have not try to upload a simple php like the one you suggest, but what would be the porpuse of this?

        Thanks for your help.

when i tried your website earlier none of the files above worked and i got the same error.

I suspect that either php is not running properly or that the files have been uploaded to a wrong location.

I would also suggest you create a test html page as well if this loads and your php test does not then it would be a problem with the php configuration.

If neither work then it would be an issue with your upload kocation. Either way i would also advise that you contact hostgator to find out how to fix the issue.

Let us know how you get on.

            sample-robots.txt loads OK

So it must be a config problem with php on the server if you contact hostgator they should easily be able to fix this for you.

Thanks Onesmarthost, I am sorry for this next silly question but what should I ask them. I am sure they do not give you support for CMS software, they do on PHP but what should I ask them, I dont know what is the actaul problem.

              Thanks for your quick response.

When I went to the manager/includes directory at your site, I got the normal "You’re not allowed to access file folder" message, which means that the MODx files are there, probably in the right locations.

Before contacting your host, you should probably try that simple "hello" file.

Call it hello.php, put the code above in it, and FTP it to the MODx root folder (the one the Manager folder is in).

Then type  osmultimedia.com/hello.php into the browser window.

You should get just "hello" on the screen (with no code showing). If you don’t, it means that PHP code is not being executed and you should tell the host that. It’s possible that they forgot (or chose not to) put a php handler in their config files.

If you do get "hello," then it’s a different problem. The most likely thing would be a bad download or upload of the MODx files.

                Hope this helps.

Have you tried re uploading your modx install files perhaps the upload got corrupted?

I would also still contact hostagtor and explain to them you are trying to install MODx but cannot even get the page to show up, any decent web host should take a look for you as its not always down to the installer but sometimes a problem with their server / site configuration.
