      Hi Jordan,

I’m really not an expert and have no experience with this, but this seems difficult.
Maybe you could import one site content inside the other one using phpMyAdmin.
I think this should be possible without overwriting the data of the site which imports the database from the other site.

In your case, I would have a look at MODx tables using phpMyAdmin. This would help you understand how accesses are managed, a.s.o. and bring some light about what should be possible and what not.

Of course, the problem of the data that are not stored in database(s) but in external files remains and depends on your file structures.

        Access another database from MODx

Isn’t Jordan’s situation somewhat different as --if I understood well-- he has to mix 2 databases and display them on the same site. It is not very clear to me in which database, the templates a.s.o will be stored (maybe both) and how much the member-only and public data will be mixed.

@Jordan: Maybe you should explain more in detail your project.

Hmmm...you could be right...yep...probably best if Jordank clarified...

thanks guys, a bit more info...

i have a ’public’ childrens centre association’ website (www.cccsa.com.au) - constructed in dreamweaver without modx.
i have just setup a ’members childrens centre association’ (members.cccsa.com.au) website using modx.

The ’public’ site displays all the centres info (www.cccsa.com.au/city.html) - name, address, phone, email, website address.
This is the info that i would like the ’members’ to input through a form (eForm?) and that info automatically update on the public site.

Since the current member site has a login for members I was hoping of making the members fill in the info for the public site through the members site. (saves me from setting up all the member login stuff for the public site. Once i convert the public site into a modx site - I would like the members info fill the table as per (www.cccsa.com.au/city.html) these table are broken into north, south, west etc.

              thanks again for your help

Still not sure that I understood you completely since both sites are "public", at least partially. wink

If I understood you correctly, the "members" site is the site where the members of your association have access in writing to update their data (like adresse, phone, a.s.o.) .

You want to switch the public site from Dreamweaver design to MODx and wonder if you would still be able to link the table with adresses (and maybe other tables) located in the other site database (i.e. ’members’ site) while keeping a distinct database for the ’public’ MODx site.

                Are these your needs ?

                  ’Jul’ your spot on...

i would like the members to fill in their details from the ’members site’ with that data being automatically placed into the tables on the ’non member site (public)’

Would it work for you to just move the data into the MODx database and keep it there? Moving it is relatively easy and you’d only have to do it once.

You could also make both sites part of the same MODx install using rewrite rules so they’d keep the same URLs.

Thanks BobRay, both sites aren’t in modx at the moment. so i would be duplicating the database

not knowing much about php or modx at the moment i am thinking of the simplest solution.
