What search engine is ModX using? Is it possible to use a different one for it? Like sphider.

Ah ok, but can you give me a small rundown of how it compares? I’m thinking theres a difference between the Ajax search and for example sphider rather than just the ajax part, and if you know which one would you use?

The main difference is that AjaxSearch searches directly in the content table of the modx database (and anywhere else you configure it to look) . It does not crawl through your site to build an index of keywords as spiders like sphider or htdigg do. AjaxSearch is quite powerful but it cannot search in pdf files for instance. With AjaxSearch changes to your website are searchable instantly as you do not have to re-index.

Which one to use depends on what your requirements are. I would spent some time getting familiar with AjaxSearch first and see if it covers your needs.
