    hi, i have installed MODx on a live server but the manager isn’t working properly (im new to MODx btw)

    it works perfectly on my local LAMP but when installed on a live remote LAMP it doesn’t.
    During installation there were no error messages and i have mirrored what i have done locally.
    i have reinstalled a few times with a few different downloads in case of corruption but no change...  huh

    server details are as follows
    PHP Version 5.2.5
    Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS)
    MySQL 4.1.22-log

    I have included a link to a screen dump to show you what I mean.. please help, im totally new... Joomla and Zencart both work fine

    it is also painfully slow.. where as zencart and joomla work at normal speed (and these were installed after Modx)

        Hi,

        ok.. this is what I have done..

        I removed all other CMS from server (in case of conflict) including modx

        deleted modx database
        recreated modx database

        downloaded modx-0.9.6.3.zip
        unzipped to folder using 7-Zip – no errors returned
        created modx directory (hyzen.co.uk/modx)
        FTP’d unzipped via FileZilla – no errors returned

        went to hyzen.co.uk/modx
        followed on screen instructions, setting correct 777 permissions on detailed files
        clicked install – no error messages returned

        as you can see http://www.hyzen.co.uk/modx/ returns information that the installation was successful

        following OpenGeek’s advise I followed the link http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,30941.0.html and did the following
        ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
        The steps I took:
        1) I opened the file: manager\includes\rss.inc.php

        2) I commeted lines 25 and 26:
        Code:
        /*$urls[’modx_news_content’] ="http://feeds.feedburner.com/modx-announce";
        $urls[’modx_security_notices_content’] = "http://feeds.feedburner.com/modxsecurity";*/

        3) I added the following lines:
        Code:
        $urls[’modx_news_content’] ="";
        $urls[’modx_security_notices_content’] = "";
        +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

        and it hasn’t work fpr me sad

        lol, what am I doing wrong? Usual screen dump available at
        http://www.hyzen.co.uk/modx2.jpg

        also the home pages is failing XHTML & CSS W3C validation???

        btw, I agree with another thread about Joomla being truly gash! I only installed it to see what it was like.. it is a bloated piece of kit.. but sadly it works.. I want to be able to kick Joomla into touch and focus solely on modx.. but I need a CMS for 2 projects asap... I already have one masters degree, I dont want to do another one just to learn Joomla! and using zencart as a CMS is just odd!

        help.. where am I going wrong?

          Not sure what to tell you without more information on your environment or some kind of error detail. Did you check the Apache and/or PHP error logs if you have those configured to log to file? They might contain some more hints as to the problem you are encountering, but this looks like it’s going to be related to some kind of PHP configuration issue that MODx does not like.

            The fact that you can login and get the main frame suggests the install was OK.

            I haven’t installed 9.6.3 yet - so I am not sure what you meant by "setting correct 777 permissions on detailed files". But I would question why any file would have permissions set to 777 either 755 or 744 is more than enough. 777 is a BIG security hole. I have had an Apache server balk at loading files will permissions set to 777. So, you might want to check that.

            In addition to checking the logs as OpenGeek suggested - you might want to try and open each frame in its own tab. The speed at which you get the messages in the two frames can also be a clue. If it is taking a long time - it may indicate the server is not able to connect to the database or the connection is very slow.
