How to generate thumb for a web page

Does anyone knows of a solution to generate thumb for web page?
I understand that I need to fire up a browser to render the page, capture that, and save the captured thumb. It looks like I need to be able to make a system calls to an external utility on the server...
I’m looking for a solution like http://www.websnapr.com/

Has anyone any experience in this area? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts/ideas?

The problem with snapshot is that it relies on HyperSnap, a third party .exe that works only on Windows hosting, no Linux version...

This seems to require you have your own webserver running somewhere which the webpage sends a request
for the job and the server does the job and sends back the shot... Im not going to spam this subject which I
dont understand at all. Hopefully someone out there has better knowledge.
