Permission Errors when Using Symbolic Links (ln)

I’ve got a MODx site (9.6.2) on CentOS linux... I want to track the assets in Subversion, but there are some HUGE files in there that don’t need to be tracked (video clips), so I thought I could pull them out of the /assets directory and make a symbolic link to those files. But when I do that, I get a 403 error... apache doesn’t seem to like that. I can’t hit those files in a browser. If I lose the symbolic link and put the folder containing those video clips back into the assets directory, everything works normally.

Any tips on why apache might have trouble with symbolic links?
