how to I access the function that creates aliases

HI,

I need to use some TV values as IDs/Classes for html elements.
Instead of using a php function that make the TV values safe to use in html(Eg. "New York" -> "New-York" OR "NewYork") I would like to use the function that creates aliases.

Any other ideas are welcomed.

I cannot access it using $modx->stripAlias();
