[Solved] creating a dropdown menu from TVs

Hi,

I would like to create a dropdown menu based on the Tv values of some documents

For example I have a TV called City. The problem is to display unique values.

I would like to do that without creating my own snippet that accesses the database. I was thinking that Ditto might be a good solution but I am not sure if it can display unique values.
Are there any other solutions?

I’ll be using the distinct extender from now on

Do you know by any chance what’s the best solution for changing the values of another dropdown based on the selection in the first?

Example:
When I choose Ontario I would like to show all all the cities in the db.


I get both variables from TV values but I’m having problems using only Ditto. It seems I need some sort of nested ditto calls.

Hmm... you may want to consider using a Snippet for this... something other than Ditto. This is probably too much horsepower, but if you have a separate database table where you’ve got stuff like "cities" stored (which may be cleaner than storing them in MODx documents), then you could write a Snippet containing the SQL query and use a Chunk to format it... (or maybe you could get by with a simple @SELECT binding).

all the cities and states are entered for each document. So I had to query the db get a list of all the citis and regions and create an array like $list[region] = array("city1", "city2" ...)

based on this array I created a javascript array and manipulated it with Jquery.
