I am going around the bend trying to get MODx to install (was successful before) onto a server.

I can get to the installer but am stumped at getting the server connections to work.

What is the difference between "Database login name" and "Database name" huh

I successfully created a database and have a name and password. The name goes into the "Database name" field but what do I enter for "Database login name"? This is someone else’s account. I can get into the account but do not see where I would find the "Database login name"...

    Thanks!

that’s usually depends on the host,
for example on one of my hosting the user name for the database is sin49_sinbad the db name is sin49_modx where sin49 is the login name they provided me for the admin login panel.

maybe mention the host and someone will know better.

I mentioned this in another thread. The host is Dotster.com but I don’t think folks here know this host.

If I don’t get help/info from the host soon then I will have to get my friend/client to yank this host and move to a host where I can get the MODx installation to work. I have simply wasted too many hours on this already.

I am not as frustrated as I was as I had a nice dinner and am sipping some nice Glenfiddich...

do u have access to his cpanel? how does the database/user names are there? it’ll usually have the same prefix you need to add in modx installer, if any.
maybe it’s the database address you don’t have right? (internal.*.com)

This is old, so I assume you figured it out, but the database host is the server where the database lives, often it lives on the same server as MODx, so "localhost" is common. The database username is the username you use to login to the database. That could be anything. It’s no different than web email, if that helps. E.g. the hostname might be "yahoo.com", and the username would be "your_name" (whatever appears before "@yahoo.com").
