I created a database on a www.dotster.com account and then uploaded (via FTP) the whole MODx folder contents to the www.mysite.com directory.
There used to be a static site at this location but I removed all the files first. I can get the MODx installer to appear and function but it fails at the sever/database page. If I click on the "Click here to test your server connection and get the available collations" it fails. The "Click here to create your database or to test the selection of your database" test also fails.
When I created the database within the dotster databse window I filled out the Database Name and Database Password. I also filled out a Database Username.
When it comes to the MODx install page I am asked for the following:
Top box...
Database host: local host (filled in already)
Database login name:
Database password:
Second box...
Database name:
Table prefix: modx (filled in already)
Connection Method: SET CHARACTER SET (chosen already)
Collation: utf8_general_ci (chosen already)
And then the third box for the Default Admin User.
So I am leaving the "local host" in the first item in the top box and using the password for the database I created. I am using the name of the database I created in the Database name box (second box, top row)
I am confused as to what I enter as the Database login name? (first box, second row.) Is this the same as the name I gave when creating the database? I tried that and could never get either of the two tests to work.
Very stumped at this point. Any ideas on what to do now?
Thanks,
Max
Your Database Login Name is the Database Username from this sentence
When I created the database within the dotster databse window I filled out the Database Name and Database Password. I also filled out a Database Username.
. Its also possible that your database is not on ’localhost’, you need to ask your admins what to use here.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
It is not localhost - you will want to use the hostname listed in your control panel.
You guys were correct it was not local host.
I dumped the database, went through and created a new one and found the Database Host id...
During the install I was asked to create a config.inc.php file (writable) and then after the install to make it read only. This I did and all seems OK so far: I get a nice report of positive check marks and can get into the manager...
Thanks...
