    Hi,
I’m new here, so if this is a double post, I’m sorry.
Anyway - I’ll start using Modx on my new project, and therefore I’m designing and programming a new theme.
But if there is a new version of Modx soon, it’s waist of time to make a theme at the moment.

When can I expect a new version (I’m really excited, love this CMS.. It’s better than Joomla!)

It is not a waste of time since there will be migration tools to make the change over easy and the principals are still very much the same. I don’t think that there is a deadline for release yet. I would go ahead and build the site rather than wait. In the meantime download the public alpha release of modx revolution (this is the name of the new version) and start testing it out.

Templates will be absolutely and quite easily portable to the new code base. Being that the new code base (Revolution) is not in beta status, I’d advise you to start with the current release.

I’d echo what Ryan says. If I’m developing a new site or a major upgrade to an existing site, I always use the beta release if there’s an upcoming release in beta.

I don’t touch alphas except for testing because the definition of an alpha is that it’s still in internal testing and things are very likely to change.

For a number of current projects I’m developing against 0.9.6.2-rc2 and finding it really stable and a good improvement over 0.9.6.1 so far.

No offence meant to the modx guys (this is certainly not an insult or a bad word against the project), they’re doing a lot of awesome work, but if you wait for the next stable release you’ll be waiting a while - 0.9.6.2 has been in beta for a few months now.

There’s no harm in using 0.9.6.1 either, it’s perfectly stable and from what I hear Revolution (aka modx 2) will be compatible with the current version with some minor chanes that might be automated in an upgrade script.

I have used 0.9.6.2 RC on Svalbardflora.net from the releasedate. I’m running some standard snippets, some selfmade snippets, Phx and some extra plugins. And with no problems at all! Everything is running rock steady.
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?
