    Hey folks,

Our client was hacked and had a full-on malware infection. I just started at my company and have never used ModX before.

GoDaddy finally cleared the malware and I have the left over files from the site but when we go to the site, there is a completely empty index page.

I guess that cleaning the malware might have removed vital pages/parts of pages and thus the result I see.

I have tried re-installing ModX and then copying the files as per this page : https://modx.com/blog/2015/09/21/migrating-your-modx-site/

But even when I do this, I get an empty index page again. I can see the manager login fine but the main index is blank.

Any ideas of how I can fix this so I can get the site back up?

    Much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    George

Make sure you don't have an index.html file in the MODX root.

Manually delete all files in the core/cache directory.

Did you run Setup after installing the files? If not, do that.

Did you copy the files individually with FTP? That often results in missing or corrupted files.

        Thanks for responding!

I removed the index.html file. As for the files in the core/cache folder, do you mean all files including all the folders?

Also, running Setup? I installed using installatron on cPanel.

Yes, remove all files and folders, but not the cache directory itself.

If you used Softaculous or something similar, people often have trouble with the automatic MODX installs.

Here's another method (it's about upgrading, but the section on placing the files and running setup is the same) : https://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html

Removing all the contents of the cache directory gives an error :

            500 Error
            Site temporarily unavailable.

I will go check the bobsguides.com page.

There is no setup folder in the version I just downloaded (2.6.5). Oh yes there is.. but it's inside core/cache.

I was just going to delete the contents when I saw the setup. I'll try running that and see.

Nope, everything just displays the welcome page.

I assume that the setup is run automatically when the installation happens.

What confuses me is that there is a components folder in the core directory and also in assets.

Well, this all confuses me smiley
