So my site was hacked... well, for someone I made a site for. I don't manage it, and I guess it was pretty out of date and therefore got hacked. I thought it was being backed up, but cannot find a backup. The domain hosting company was going to shut me down if I put the files back in place, even if tried to clean them, so I installed a fresh (most recent) version of MODX. My old files are in a quarantine folder, but of course, I cannot access manager since it's in quarantine. I want to be able to view the files so I can copy the appropriate code and ignore any malicious code. Is there a way to access manager if it's not in the public_html folder on the main server? Also, I connected the original database, but wondering now if that actually links anything because I figured doing so would link all my assets so that at least I could see them, even if the actual page files were not in the directory. So, thinking now best to just start fresh and relink page by page (yes I realize that will take forever but not sure if it's a good idea at this point to put anything back from before). Anyway, looking for advice and suggestions on how to access manager and/or relink my files.

Depending on the size of the site you may be better off starting from scratch: Wayback Machine might help...

...moving the core to outside of the Modx installation and password protecting the core, connectors and manager directories are essentials.

If either you, or your host, can get access to the DB in PhpMyAdmin, it can be exported to an .SQL file which will contain the content of all your resources, templates, and chunks, in plain text. It's unlikely that any of that is corrupted, but if it is, you should be able to see it.
