    Hi,

    Have built a site on IIS which seems to be running fine for the most part, but a major concern is that the QuickEdit Bar has disappeared completely and we don’t know why. There is no HTML code to load the QuickEdit bar to be seen in the source of the page, and I have very little idea as to what could be holding it back.

    The only thing that I think might be affecting it has to do with a piece of custom code which is handling a secure access feature required for the site that uses sessions. The custom code has been directly inserted early into index.php after line 52 at:
    /**
     * Initialize Document Parsing
     * -----------------------------
     */

    // get start time
    $mtime = microtime(); $mtime = explode(" ",$mtime); $mtime = $mtime[1] + $mtime[0]; $tstart = $mtime;

    // harden it
    require_once(dirname(__FILE__).'/manager/includes/protect.inc.php');

    /******custom code include inserted here******/

    // set some settings, and address some IE issues
    @ini_set('url_rewriter.tags', '');
    @ini_set('session.use_trans_sid', 0);
    @ini_set('session.use_only_cookies',1);
    session_cache_limiter('');
    header('P3P: CP="NOI NID ADMa OUR IND UNI COM NAV"'); // header for weird cookie stuff. Blame IE.
    header('Cache-Control: private, must-revalidate');
    ob_start();
    error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);

    Unfortunately I can’t show much of the detail of the code, but I will pass on as much info as possible on request. What might be helpful is if someone could tell me what might turn the QuickEdit bar off completely when there are few easy ways to do this. Also if anyone knows of what session variables QuickEdit requires and the values it uses - I can see from here what is on or not.

    Thanks in advance.

      QuickEdit is mostly handled by a plugin that requires a valid manager session. If your custom code is affecting the sessions, then I’m afraid you’ll be on your own with getting it back in order as the code has not been touched in a long time and the original author is very busy as his day job. Probably not the answer you want, but it’s the truth!

        I haven’t changed any of the original sessions, only added 3 more. Also I have no problems logging in as manager and performing all other tasks as admin.

        Can anyone tell me what Session entries QuickEdit uses?

          Just checking the basics, are you calling the content areas you want to modify with the QuickEdit identifier ( # )?
          w/QuickEdit: [*#content*]
          wo/ : [*content*]

          this has gotten me a few times lol smiley

            No I’m not, but I’ve done a couple of sites where I haven’t used that, and the bar still comes up in the top corner. Definitely I will try that though, thanks.

            Another thing, I can’t see it should make a difference, but I don’t have any of the original start up content pages (page id 1) or the original template. This shouldn’t have any effect though, should it?

              Just tried putting this in, no effect, QuickEdit Bar still missing. It’s not even coming up in the HTML source from the browser.

                your post title says it’s missing in manager mode, you aware that quick edit is for front end only right?

                  Yes I am, but QuickEdit only comes up when logged in - as I don’t have any web users, it only comes up when logged into the manager.

                  I’ve just determined that the security add-on I have included has nothing to do with QuickEdit not appearing. When the security is turned off, the QE bar is still missing.

                  So now I have absolutely no idea as to why it isn’t coming up. Help?

                    cool just wanted to make sure, was a bit confused by the title.
                    did u try removing your extra code completely and not just disabling the feature?
                    also is this happens in all browsers you have installed?

                      I commented out the include code in the index.php - the file shouldn’t exist now as far as ModX is concerned. And yes, this is non-browser specific, happens on all browsers and platforms.
