301 Redirect a PDF?

Does anyone know how to redirect a document URL request? In this case it’s a PDF. The path is /content/vl_Executive_overview.pdf. I want redirect that to an html document in the root of the site.

I tried to adjust the .htaccess file with this rule, but the pre-existing rewrite rules make the URL look like this:

http://127.0.0.1/clientname/contact.html?q=content/vl_Executive_overview.pdf

Anyone have an idea on how to resolve this? Thanks!

Matt

IIRC rules are executed in order, try placing your pdf redirect rule before the "pre-existing rule"?

Thanks for your response David. I can across this guide on Apache Rewriting rules and got it working:

Hope anyone else having a similar issue will find this handy. Thanks!
