No Trash Icon

I just noticed that on one of my sites, the Empty Trash icon above the folder tree simply isn’t there.

What would be a reason for this?

I think it only appears when there are documents that have been deleted but not purged. They appear with a line through the name.

I recently had and resolved this problem
