I haven’t used this plugin for Wordpress, but here are my thoughts:
1. MODx’s approach to URLs is very different from Wordpress... it views each page as a file. Wordpress can be confusing (depending on how it’s setup) because you can navigate to the same post using multiple different URLs. MODx doesn’t need the permalink thing because the post (i.e. the page) lives in one specific place.
2. Deep-linking to any number of pages on your MODx site can be accomplished easily using the WayFinder snippet. If for some reason that’s restrictive for you, you can always write your own snippet to list pages that meet your criteria (e.g. using the @SELECT binding within a template variable). But if you learn WayFinder and Ditto, then what you can accomplish with MODx will go through the roof. They are hugely important and versatile.
3. If these don’t meet your needs, don’t blame the community: get cracking on some coding. We’ve all got things we’re working on and as we develop new tools for our own MODx projects, we generally make them available to the community when appropriate.
Thanks for that hugely unhelpful post,
1. Yes and no you still have to hack the .htaccess to get Modx to do frinedly URL’s so not too different really but I take your point to an extent.
2. I think you misunderstand me and also what deep linking is, I’m talking about links in articles pointing back to for example the homepage not the other way round.
3. If I knew how to write these things then I would do it myself and post it on these pages, I was just asking for some help, sorry if that pissed you off!
BTW I have actually, through the help of a nice member of this forum, found the plugin I was after, it’s called autolink
