    hello there,
i’m gong to be setting up a gallery section for a website soonish, just wanted to ask if the way i’m thinking of doing it is logical or if anyone has any better ideas.
it’ll be for the website www.outbackstores.com.au, and any visitor to the site will be able to see a low-res gallery [just small images, no need for them to be clickable to open up larger ones]. on this page there’d also be a login section with a message something like ’contact o.s. for login details’ and then they’d get emailed a generic username and password.
then i’m a bit unsure... once logged in, i could have another gallery section, hi-res this time, with clickable thumbnails to bring up larger images, only there’d still be the low-res gallery, too. would that be a bit odd? any better ideas? thanks in advance grin

This snippet allows you to show a chunk to non members and shows another to members but in the same place on the template.

You could setup up a chunk with just a list of low res images and a registration form, on signin the chunk is replaced with a high res list of images.

I know webloginPE can send generated passwords automatically but I don’t know about usernames. I would allow the user to signup using their own credentials as you may want to expand the users options down the line.

      Does this help?

No problems... I recently found that snippet myself and it works great. Make sure you follow the edit instructions in the post at the bottom though.

i’ve been thinking more about the gallery i want to create and looked into personalize [thanks again rossco]. am trying to get it straight in my head before i plunge on in, would it likely work like this...:

user gets to the gallery section. at the top is info saying ’....email us for a username and password or if you already have, login to the right...’ and then a login section to the right. below this, would be low-res images using the maxigallery snippet which would be sitting within the not-logged-in chunk.

once someone is logged in, the low-res images would now have a ’download hi-res image’ link. so if i’m right, this would be using the maxigallery call within a logged-in chunk...?

if that’s right, when i add the images to the maxigallery, would i have to add them twice because of the 2 chunks? or am i [likely] a bit confused... huh if this is getting to be something that is tricky for a newbie, could someone please let me know and i’ll post it as a job rather than stress myself out... or if you think it is doable by a newbie, can you please explain really clearly for me? little gaps trip me up big...

thinking some more... can i put the personalize snippet within the maxigallery template chunk? so it could just include the ’download hi-res image’ link in one of the 2 chunks? sorry again for my confusion...

You could create the 2 chunks, one for low res and one for high res and call the in the Personlize snippet. The low res could have the same call as the high res maxigallery apart from just changing the MG Tpl so that the low res would be unclickable and you could have the thumbs smaller than the high res Tpl. You could set the style for image holders to be style="hight:25px; width25px" and this will force the thumbs to be smaller, the high res could have 150px size thumbs. If you want to limit thumb size you can use the parameter in the MG call. I would make the param make the thumbs say 100px and don’t use the style in the high res Tpl to limit the size of the thumbs as the MG call has done that, just use the style on the low res Tpl.

You can see an example of how I done the resizing of thumbs using the same gallery but using 2 different Tpls.

If you go to the footer of the site you will see 50px thumbs, this size is being forced using css styling. The same thumb is being used on the page that has the main gallery but without the 50px style and is using the MG thumb size which is 150px.

thanks again for your help rossco, really appreciate it. i’m going to have a crack at it tomorrow night when i’m fresh so daresay i’ll be back with a question or 2.
last one for the moment, in the forum thread you pointed me to, it says:

                Place [+username+] in &yesChunk template.

am just a bit unsure of how/where to put that. if my yesChunk template is just the html bizzo to make the gallery bits, where would the username fit in?
ps that’s a nice looking gallery on your website, i like it... i like it a lot...
