web/manager access

Hi,

new to modx and trying to figure this out.. didn’t find the answer in my search of the forum (im sure its in here somewhere)

so I have set up users/usergroups/roles etc envisioning that certain users (content editors) would provide material for specific
categories and not others.

Yet when in the document editor and I set the ’access permissions’ say by making the document a member of a specific doc
group, it applies this to both manager and web access. But I would like this page to be world viewable!

So.. what am I doing wrong or missing here to enable one set of permissions for content editors and another for web viewers ?
(note the word viewers and not users - i understand that I may set up content specific for logged in registered webusers)

That takes me back -- it bit me when I first started messing with permissions in MODx. Our resident permissions expert (sottwell) is otherwise engaged so I’ll try to explain.

If you want a document public for the public, so to speak, it can’t belong to any document groups that are tied to web user groups -- *manager* user document/group connections have no effect on public access.

Web permissions and Manager permissions are separate and, in either, as soon as a document is assigned to a document group that is connected to a user group, it can only be accessed by users belonging to that user group.

If you have a bunch of these to fix, try using the DocManager module (click on the Modules tab).
