Sorry for asking this question, but I´m really to silly to get the easiest thing done and can´t find an answer after reading tons of useless (for this particular question) documentation. sad

I have a webspace (http://mac-emu.de) where I want to host my site. I´ve prepared a simple site in ModX (2.5.5) and it seems to work (http://www.mac-emu.de/modx-2.5.5-pl/index.php?id=2). How do I make this site (ignore the layout, just a quick test) being loaded when typing http://mac-emu.de? Currently there is an index.html there, which shall be replaced. But with what?

And additional to that: I´ve played a bit with ModX, so I have two websites now in the manager. The first one is obsolete, but I can´t neither delete it (because it is set as start site), nor do I know how to make my current project the start site.

My problem is really as simple as it sounds. I´m too silly to bring my website online... Any help appreciated.

      Hi skrlegel,

Welcome to the world of MODX.

It looks like you've installed your MODX cms into a folder within your webroot called '/modx-2.5.5-pl/'. Ideally you should place the MODX cms into the webroot if that's where you want it to start. You can then set the site into maintenace mode and setup a coming soon or holding page and specifying this as the maintenance page in your system settings until you're ready to launch.

You have a few options here to rectify this:

      A) You can move the files within that folder to the webroot and then proceed to edit all of the MODX related config files to point to the new path. Refer to the config paths mentioned in this article for assistance
      https://docs.modx.com/revolution/2.x/administering-your-site/moving-your-site-to-a-new-server
If you're new to MODX though do please take a backup first as be very melicilious about changing the paths as inserting a wrong path will result in your site not loading correctly or at all.

      B) You can ask your host to edit the document root of the domain to start at /modx-2.5.5-pl/ instead of (most likely) /public_html/.

To change the site start you can do this by going into the MODX system settings in your manager (/manager/?a=system/settings)and searching for 'site_start'. You can then edit the number to the new resource ID that you want the site to start at (default is 1) [ed. note: lkfranklin last edited this post 6 years, 6 months ago.]

Also I have a few tutorials on youtube that I've been working on that may be of help to you getting set up. Nothing comprehensive, but hopefully helpful.

          Hi LK,

thanks for the superfast answer. Changing site_start and deleting the old page workes like described. smiley

As I did not create very much yet, I think about making a fresh install of the current ModX version in the root. I think, that´s easier than moving all the files and changing the paths.

All done and working nicely. Now I got a fresh setup of modx and the page is where I want it to be. Thanks for your great support.
