Answered Can't save resource when TV uses TinyMCE rich text editor

    Weird TV behaviour with TinyMCE with a 2.5.7 install: A template has multiple TVs, including 6 for different text areas (in a tabbed content area on the corresponding web page). If all those TVs are set to text area (i.e. no TinyMCE), all is well. If even just one of them is switched to rich text (i.e. TinyMCE), edits can't be saved. Also, TinyMCE doesn't show text previously saved for the TV.

    The error log shows no relevant errors.

    Not a modsec problem. Have turned modsec off at the server temporarily to test.

    More frustrating: The same TVs with TinyMCE work fine on a different template.

    Anyone know how to make sure TinyMCE works normally as a text editor for TVs and doesn't make a resource unusable?

      It should be fine but what tinymce extra are you using as there are several and one or two can be problematic.

        Thanks for the reply. The version is TinyMCE 4.3.4. I forget the author, but it is the most popular download, and the one I use on all other sites, so far with no problems except for one other site where some instances of TinyMCE on TVs keeping showing blank editors when there definitely is text in the database for that TV.

          Blank TVs is usually the result of installing one version of TinyMCE and then installing a different version/extra of TinyMCE. IF you've done this you may want to revert it back to the original one to get the content to reappear.

          For the original problem i'd suggest installing tinymcewrapper as I personally find this to be the most stable version (or use the redactor premium richtext editor from modmore which is a lot simpler and has a nice UI). There's a possibility you may still also get that blank content bug when switching rich text editors so do a back up first before doing anything else.

              Thank you, Bob, for responding. Yes, the TVs are attached to the template.

              Thank you, LK, for pointing out the wrapper and the redactor, which I wasn't aware of.

              Long story short, the TVs seem to be working okay now (fingers crossed). I uninstalled TinyMCE, removed it, reinstalled it; removed all the TVs from the template, added only the text TVs back on one at a time, then the others. Back to the setup I think I had at the beginning, only now it works. No clue as to what the problem was. But I have learned to live with being clueless, and MODX has helped in that regard.

                The MODX version of TinyMCE has caused lots of similar problems in later versions of MODX.

                Another solution is to use NewsPublisher and have users edit the resources and/or TVs in the front end. It loads TinyMCE 4 from the web so the MODX version of TinyMCE is not involved at all.

                  I highly recommend not using that version of TinyMCE that's at the top of the downloads in the package manager. Honestly I think it should be removed.

                  Go for "TinyMCE Rich Text Editor" instead. It's more modern. https://modx.com/extras/package/tinymcerichtexteditor

                  Or if you want something more customizable and includes everything including a kitchen sink, go for "TinyMCE Wrapper" https://modx.com/extras/package/tinymcewrapper
