Hoping someone can point me to a writeup that I've missed.

I am looking to do a first-time ModX installation on my development server for existing web site as we are looking to add CMS. Since the site controls licensing of software for our QA team, it needs to remain running while I work out the templates and port the site over. Eventually, when the new ModX controlled site goes live, it will need to take over for the dev site. Is this possible?

Site structure has the dev site in a directory off the web root: mserver.com/siteliveshere

Would I install ModX at the web root or in another subdirectory?

Eventually, I will need to do the same process for the production server/site.

    Thanks in advance.

Usually, I would put MODX into another subdirectory, for example mserver.com/modx and create a subdomain, for example dev.mserver.com which points to mserver/modx.
When you are ready, you can remove the subdomain and point the main-domain to mserver.com/modx without any issues, when you do everything right with relative links everywhere.

Thank you very much. I'll give that a shot.
