I have a static site that was working fine. I installed Modx and simply made a static homepage template from my HTML code for now. All other pages are still standard .html files. I noticed this week that the site was no longer showing up on Google. I setup webmaster tools and tried to add a sitemap from the same site I have used from years. I got an error trying to generate the sitemap. Then I tried to "fetch as Google" within search console and it returns an "unreachable" error. I can fetch other pages just fine, just not the homepage which is the only page fed from a modx template. I've tried enabling FURLS and not. Domain is https://nativeplainsok.com

Here is my current .htacess file: Thanks!

    # MODX supports Friendly URLs via this .htaccess file. You must serve web
    # pages via Apache with mod_rewrite to use this functionality, and you must
    # change the file name from ht.access to .htaccess.
    #
    # Make sure RewriteBase points to the directory where you installed MODX.
    # E.g., "/modx" if your installation is in a "modx" subdirectory.

I don't have any answers for you, but some observations and questions that might help you or others find out what is going on.

      When you say
All other pages are still standard .html files
do you mean that they are static html files outside of the MODX CMS/database?

Is your old index.html file is still on the server?

Chrome reports any attempt to reach your home page, or a page that does not exist as Error code 503 (Service Unavailable)
So all of these pages report that:
      https://nativeplainsok.com/
      https://nativeplainsok.com/index.html
      https://nativeplainsok.com/index.php
      https://nativeplainsok.com/index.php?id=1
      https://nativeplainsok.com/zzz

Your other pages do not report any errors ie: https://nativeplainsok.com/about.html is OK

I suggest going to your MODX System Settings and setting up an error page (404), for pages that cannot be found. By default MODX will use the home page as the 404 page.

If you set up an alternative error page I think you will find that when this is displayed for urls like https://nativeplainsok.com/zzz it will also throw up a Error code 503 (Service Unavailable).

If it does this could suggest that MODX is having a problem accessing your database.

To set a 404 page up go to: MODX Manager / Settings / System Settings / Site / Error page. Set this to the ID number of a page that is published and contains some text that is different from the home page.

It might also be worth emptying the /core/cache folder

Is there anything in the MODX error log? MODX Manager / Manage / Reports / Error log

        Thanks for the detailed reply!

        When you say
All other pages are still standard .html files
do you mean that they are static html files outside of the MODX CMS/database?

Yes, that is correct. They are static pages the live in the root level of my site. The homepage template for now is simple linking to /about.html etc. Until I actually hack the site up into a Modx driven site. For now all I have done is installed Modx and create a basic template for the homepage. All other pages link to non Modx pages.

Is your old index.html file is still on the server?

No, it has been renamed to indexXX.html. Strange thing is https://nativeplainsok.com/index.html still takes you to the site... I assume this is the server just recognizing you are trying to access the homepage and forwarding you accordingly?

Chrome reports any attempt to reach your home page, or a page that does not exist as Error code 503 (Service Unavailable)
So all of these pages report that:
        https://nativeplainsok.com/
        https://nativeplainsok.com/index.html
        https://nativeplainsok.com/index.php
        https://nativeplainsok.com/index.php?id=1
        https://nativeplainsok.com/zzz

So strange. I have no idea why my homepage https://nativeplainsok.com/ loads fine, but reports a 503...

To set a 404 page up go to: MODX Manager / Settings / System Settings / Site / Error page. Set this to the ID number of a page that is published and contains some text that is different from the home page.

        Basic 404 page setup.

It might also be worth emptying the /core/cache folder

        Done

Is there anything in the MODX error log? MODX Manager / Manage / Reports / Error log

        It's empty

OMG... this is about as dumb as it gets. And I SWEAR I checked it. BUT... the site status was checked to NO... Not sure that happened, I'm positive I had set it to yes and logged out to make sure the site was still live.

Sorry for wasting your time. haha.
