Could it be caused by an error in your .htaccess file? What happens if you rename you file to ht.access?

Thanks Andy. Renaming the .htaccess file messes with a few things like FURLs but ultimately I can still load the homepage when logged in and receive error when not.

Ok so its not a snippet error. I would suggest next trying to run the MODX setup which will also check file/folder permissions for you and point out any errors. Have you altered any contexts or permissions on the site at all for users?

    Agree we've ruled out snippets.

It did cross my mind that it may be related to permissions / contexts but I don't remember making any significant changes in those areas. The anonymous user group has Load Only permissions on the web context which is in line with my other sites. At the same time, something is telling me to look further into that area - will report back.

Failing that - I'll try running the MODX Setup again as you suggest. I'm less hopeful in that area as I have already made a brand new MODX installation, which worked fine until I restored the database from the problem site to it. This [I think] suggests probably not files / permissions although I would not rule it out completely.

Thanks again both for your thoughts.

    Chris

And you'd be absolutely right :-P

In an early foray into Revo users / groups etc I had created a new resource group, a new user group and had applied permissions to the web context etc as I thought appropriate.

I'm not actually sure where I went wrong, but stripping it all back to just the default groups / users, resource groups, clearing the cache and logging out did the trick.

This has been bugging me for weeks and as a result the whole project has been on the back burner.

Never been so happy to see Chrome's spinner go clockwise!!

Thanks all for your help and especially you LK for getting me over the line!
