Answered tips to migrate https

Hi there,

I have just bought my first https certificate, so want to work out a process of migrating sites.
it's all installed and verified on the server, but when I try to view the site using https://www.domain.com I get warnings that not all items are secure. This is due to URLs for images, CSS files etc, are relative to the base url which is still http://www.domain.com.

So first off - how do i force the base url to include https?

Secondly, I assume I need to do something in my .htaccess file for forward all visitors from http://domain.com and http://www.domain.com to https://www.domain.com?

Thirdly - do I need to do anything from an SEO perspective? ie, all my pages indexed will be without https?

All your pages will be indexed without the https, but with that 301 redirect it will tell Google that this has now moved Permanently and it'll then index the https version. So it just a case of waiting for google to re index.
