    Hi guys

I have a few questions regarding Modx that i’ve been unable to find answers to. I’m sure some of them are really obvious, but i’m really unsure how to do the following:

1). Change the id of a document
2). Change the position of a document within the tree (only seem to be able to move documents to another parent file, rather to be a parent itself in the desired position)
3). Where is the "show in menu" check box? I’ve read about it, but can’t find it!

    Many thanks in advance smiley

      Hi guys

I have a few questions regarding Modx that i’ve been unable to find answers to. I’m sure some of them are really obvious, but i’m really unsure how to do the following:

1). Change the id of a document

Very bad idea - just search the forums. It will give you all sorts of problems with the database, so I read. If you still want to go ahead, I suppose someone will tell you how...  wink

2). Change the position of a document within the tree (only seem to be able to move documents to another parent file, rather to be a parent itself in the desired position)

If you mean rearranging the tree, you can use DocManager module. It ships with modx and can be installed when installing modx. If not, you can get it from the repository. It’s as simple as drag-n-drop

If you mean, move a document, you can right click on the document and select move document, then follow the instructions. Or, choose the document, and click on the tab "Move", then follow the instructions...edit: you knew this already wink

3). Where is the "show in menu" check box? I’ve read about it, but can’t find it!
In modx 0.9.6.2, when editing a document, while in the "General Tab" , under the "Menu Title" field, to the bottom right. See attached shot.

      cheers...

      /k

Okay, here we go - mainly echoing kondongo’s thoughts:

        1. I’d recommend not changing the IDs of documents. The ID serves an important purpose in the database to link all the related records (such as TV values and document permissions) back to the main document. Whilst you could change it, doing so is not a simple task and could lead to site breakages if not done properly.
        2. You can move the document anywhere in the tree using the ’Move Document’ option. If you want the document to be a container (aka folder) then either add a sub-document (in this scenario, the parent is automatically converted to a container) or edit the document and tick the ’Container’ option under the Document Settings tab.
        3. Show In Menu is on the first tab of the ’Edit/Create Document’ page, right at the bottom of the first block of document options (or just above the main content textarea whichever way you look at it tongue)

Do not change the doc IDs; it’s a bad idea and they’re used throughout the system for more than just the documents themselves. They’re nothing more than a unique key and really have no bearing other than just that: being a unique and non-changing identifier.
