Problem saving existing resources

I am experiencing a strange problem. The site works fine front and back. And I can freely create and edit the newly created document (or any resource) no problem. However, if I try to edit any existing resource the browser wants to download index.php and the data does not get saved (actually the page stalls as it gets stuck in some javascript). But I can edit the document via quickedit so the issue is only in the manager side.

To reiterate, create/edit new resources good - edit existing resources bad!

Up to last night it was working fine. There are not any errors in any of the logs and everything else seems to be working. Anyone have any ideas?

This is very strange, I still cannot edit any existing resources (templates, snippets, etc..) but i can create new ones and those I can edit freely. I am also having an issue with FTP for this server where I cannot upload php files the connection always fails. I can upload images and css files but not txt or php files. I have never had a problem like this before and am completely stumped.
