    Hi,

I have an old site on Revo 2.2.14, I have just gone in to edit some content but can't see any content in the Manager TV editing window, there is not even a flashing cursor in the space where the content should be. I have updated all the extras like tinyMCE and CodeMirror in case they were affecting the display of content but this has only had the effect of changing the shape of the panel where the content should be displayed.

I am getting this error message on the server error log:

[Thu Apr 27 16:48:01 2017] [error] [client 94.193.121.249] SoftException in Application.cpp:631: Directory "/home/domain/public_html/connectors/context" is writeable by group, referer: http://www.domainname.co.uk/manager/?a=5&key=web

I recently updated this site to run on Zurb Foundation 6 (about two months ago), at this point everything worked fine.

UPDATE: I ran Bob Ray's excellent Site Check component which revealed one error, "Root not found", could this be the cause and if so how do I fix this? The site itself works fine when viewed in a browser.

    Server info:

    Apache: 2.2.31
    PHP: 5.6.27
    MySql: 5.5.52

Any insights as to how to get the content visisble and editable again would be much appreciated.

Thanks - Mark. [ed. note: zaphodx last edited this post 7 years ago.]

It could be worth deleting tinyMCE. I know it has been implicated in a few problems related to not being able to save changes. Not the problem you have I know but it might be worth a try. Deleting and then reinstalling the latest tinyMCE sorted out a site I had problems with. I had previously upgraded to the latest version and that did not help.

Thanks for the tip Andy. I tried what you suggested but it didn't bring back the content. However, when tinyMCE is not instatlled I can see the content as html, albeit in a very small window about 15 characters wide and two lines high which is not very useful. So I guess the problem is with tinyMCE not working properly, but I can't see why.

        Any further input welcome.

        Thanks - Mark.

Having removed it you may need to set the default editor to None

I think changing the TV's input type to textarea will give you a bigger editing area.

The "Root not found" thing usually means that SiteCheck couldn't find a config.core.php file in the MODX root directory. It looks upward from the directory the SiteCheck so if there's not a config.core.php file above there, just stick a copy of it (copied from the MODX root directory) a few levels above the SiteCheck model directory. If you turn on the verbose option, it will show you where it's looking.

Thanks for the further suggestions, I fixed the "Root not found" thing, and changing input type to "Textarea" has given me a bigger window in which to edit. This doesn't help when my client wants to log in though so still need a fix.

Interestingly, I am having the same problem now with a new install for another site with MODX 2.5.7 and the Zurb Foundation 6 reponsive framework, I have made a new post for the issues I am experiencing with that as they are more than with this site.

Sorry for the late reply, I went down with flu for two weeks and am now playing catch up with everything!

              Thanks again - Mark

                UPDATE

I have found that if I clear both the browser cache and the MODX cache before and after every process step the TV content shows and I am able to edit it. Also, I am able to create new resources and save them and change their templates, which I was having issues with too. I am also experiencing this with a new MODX install on 2.5.7. So I guess there is some sort of caching issue going on but have no idea what could be causing it. Any more suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks again for any input - Mark.

Do you have any plugins that might be acting when a TV is saved or a Manager page is rendered?

Do you have any 3rd-party caching or speedup stuff activated on the server (APC, Varnish, CloudFlare, etc.)?

                    Hi Bob,

No Cloudflare or anything else. Have been in touch with the server people who have been very helpful but not found anything that could cause this behaviour.

However, it now seems that the sites are working properly in Chrome and Safari (which they weren't yesterday, go figure?) but not Firefox, in which the cache has to be cleared and the page refreshed in order to work properly. These are all latest version browsers with the latest Flash plugin. I have been through all the Firefox preferences, restarted Firefox, restarted the computer etc. but can't find anything that would be the cause of this issue...

                    Cheers - Mark.

Try visiting with Firefox in Private mode (hamburger menu > New Private Window). If that fixes it, it's either a problem with the FF cache or a cookie.
