    Hello

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question - please redirect me if necessary.

I am developing a web presence with three functional areas: a library (content heavy), e-learning (delivered by moodle) and a community/forum area.

The forum area is proving difficult. I found SMF Bridge and installed SMF on our server however am finding the integration difficult:
    a) templating/styling is clunky to say the least, and
    b) importing SMF SSI calls into MODx is inconsistent, and most importantly
    c) user-management keeps breaking - two-way syncing is not guaranteed; menu items subject to ACL do not dissappear correctly and other issues.

What I would dearly like is a forum/user-generated-content area built from internal MODx components? Am I missing some snippets that would help with this?

All we need is basic threaded discussion and blog/comment with user-voting/karma functionality.

Please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

if you are missing some snippets, and can’t find what you’re looking for, then there is always the option to develop the snippets you need to create the site.

that’s one of the great things I’ve found with MODx - the ability to extend it, as it’s a pretty damn good cms framework.

There’s indeed not much that’s been done on the forum integration front.

          Thanks both for your feedback.

I began to think I was going crazy and missing a pile of snippets that would help me on my way.

I know there’s only so much a tight group of coders can focus on. Unfortunately I have minimal coding skills so cannot begin to do this myself. We don;t actually need a full-blown forum system just something that emulates the most common aspects of one - threaded conversations, moderation/feedback loop being the main ones

I am looking at using Drupal/Drigg as my community area and possibly migrating all the main site content over to the Drupal backend. This is a great shame as I really like MODx.

I haven’t used it and don’t know what your forum requirements are but I have seen a Vanilla (nice simple clean forum) bridge for MODx. In fact, the german site uses it (IIRC). So you may want to look for that.

I use phpBB but I don’t need a bridge as there’s no logging in to my site except for the forum.
