    Hi,

If I’d like to display custom data over several pages, how would I need to implement that? Let’s say a client wants a database with all his products. These products have an image, a title and a description. There will be a detailed page for every product with all specifications, and a quick overview of all products with a thumbnail and title on the homepage.

I don’t see a way to implement this but to write a bunch of logic and custom database handling. Are there any best practises to implement such a system in ModX?

    thx,

In your example, do you mean that the product pages should be created on the fly by querying the database? Am wondering, why not just create these product pages using modx. You can then use the snippet Ditto to achieve the functionalities you’ve just described - quick overview of all products with a thumbnail and title on the homepage with links (read more kinda links) to the detailed pages for every product with all specifications. With Ditto you can even do "featured products" and other neat stuff

If you have lots of ready made content pages for your products you can use the snippet Fast_content_CSV that will basically allow you to populate pages and and sub-pages (parent pages and children pages) via a CSV file.

Search the forums. What you ask has been done before using ditto. I’ll try to post some links here for you to get you started...

        Hi kongodo,

Well, there’s no way of input specified. The best and easiest way would be to create records as pages indeed. I didn’t know Ditto could handle this kind of abstraction as I thought it was more or a blogging system. Will have a look right now smiley

        Thanks for the advise!

That’s just one implementation of Ditto. Have a look at it’s dedicated forum/pages....Ditto is one powerful "beast" wink
