Hi, i'm wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction.

I've created the pages / templates for a website using typical html, css and js plugins and now i'm looking to integrate the website with a CMS such as MODx. The website basically consists of listings (one page for products & services that are offered and one page for wanted. When a user clicks on a given listing they are then taken to it's own dedicated page that details everything about that particular listing).

What would be the best way to approach this using MODx?

So for example, the admin user would login to MODx, and would need to be able to create a new listing and that would appear in A) the general listings page & B) the dedicated page for that listing..

I'm guessing in terms of functionality, this is much like how the MODx blog works, you create a post and that's fed into a page that lists all of the blog posts (subject title, image, description) and then when you click on it, you are brought to the subject page itself.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Assuming you're not dealing with thousands of product pages and subpages, which would be better handled by a custom solution or perhaps an e-commerce solution (if you're selling things), the following extras should do what you want:

1 - Collections => Hides your listings from the tree and groups them in one unified and paginated grid interface for easy management in the manager.
2 - GetResources or pdoResources => List and summarize your listings in the front end.
3 - getPage or pdoPage => Handle the pagination of your listings on an index page.

You might also want to consider MIGX, which is an alternative to getResources and pdoResources, aggregates multiple TVs into one TV.

Thanks a lot for the reply, this gives me something to go on and i will look into your suggestions above. I had considered an e-commerce solution since out of the box, you can list products etc into categories like you say, but in this instance nothing is actually for sale (it's kind of like a jobs board in terms of how it needs to function, just listings of products and services that are offered and wanted).

The extra 'Collections' that you mention sounds interesting, i've set up a blog before in MODx and that's kind of how i want this to function (a single folder / document in the manager that contains all of the listings, in the same way the blog works by listing all the posts in one place).

I'll report back on progress. Thanks again

It might be better to put listings like that into custom - tables. You could build a Custom-Manager-Page to manage the items of this listings relatively easy with MIGXdb
Here's a little Tut on youtube (not the current version of MODX and MIGX, but still a good intro)

Thanks Bruno, just had a quick look at those links. To begin with i'm really just wanting to get something up and running as fast as possible and keep things simple, with further development later on. Customising the manager right now might not be possible in terms of time and learning curve but i'm looking through all this stuff now.
