I tried installing Moodle on my server which required install.php to be placed in /var/www and carry out the installation. I did this but the website (Modx) hosted is now not visible. Somehow i deleted all moodle files and iam able to login into administrator backend where i can create documents, add users etc.. but the site preview is not visible. Is some file missing??
Try an upgrade install of MODx. If the install directory is gone, you’ll have to upload it again first.

Sounds as if you deleted the MODx index.php file. Try reuploading it. That might be all you need to do.
