Hi everyone,
I'm running a site on MODX Revolution 2.4.1-pl and am having a weird issue with snippets. This site is in development and I haven't worked on it for a month or so, so I'm not exactly sure when this began, but it definitely isn't a longstanding problem. The problem comes when I try to add a new snippet into a new page, like this:
[[!Tester]]
The snippet "Tester" just returns a string, which should then appear on the page. However, the page behaves as if the snippet does not exist.
The same happens when I try to include an existing, working snippet on a new page OR an existing, working page. It also happens when I include a new snippet on a new page OR an existing, working page.
Strangely, existing snippets that are ALREADY called by existing, working pages DO work as usual.
I call almost all snippets with the "!" token to indicate that their output should not be cached, but this problem occurs as described whether or not I use this token.
I'm running PHP version 5.6.24-1~dotdeb+7.1 and mySQL version 5.5.49-0+deb7u1-log.
When I look at the modx_site_content and modx_site_snippets tables, I don't see anything different about the pages and snippets that work as compared to those that don't.
For what it's worth, I have another MODx site on version 2.5.0-pl that also has this problem, and I have a handful of sites on version 2.5.1-pl that do NOT have this problem.
This leads me to think that I could fix this problem by updating to the latest version of MODx. I'd like to ask for some guidance with that. My installation was done according to this page:

and a couple things were modified:
1) MODX_CORE_PATH: put below webroot and kept name "core"
2) Context configuration: Kept defaults but changed manager/ and connectors/ directory names to /control and /connect, respectively
I'm looking at
https://docs.modx.com/revolution/2.x/administering-your-site/upgrading-modx and I'm a little concerned that following these instructions might cause problems because of the above modifications to directory names.
