hi this page looks ok: http://www.insideyork.co.uk/guest-houses.html

and this one is messed up: http://www.insideyork.co.uk/attractions

i don’t understand what’s different to make it throw a bit wobbly...

yet page 2 of this is fine. which makes it seem like the html of some of the individual results is throwing it all off centre.

I’ve tried validating it etc but can’t see for the life of me where the culprits lie. If i could just alter those individual bits making it messy that would be great so it at least looks ok. then i can clean other bits up after. but at moment it’s spoiling the viewing pleasure for visitors...

and it’s hard to just validate and clean up cos it’s the results not the page causing it...

OK assuming both pages use the same template then I would say it is a stray html tag (you have an opening tag and not a closing one or the other way round) somewhere in your content TV’s but which one and where is going to hard to track. I will look at the code and see if i can find it but no guarentees.

OK looking at the validation for the page the things I would look at are

        # Warning Line 227, Column 2: unclosed start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES.

        <p class="ditto_link"><a href="micklegatebarmuseum.html" title="Read more...">

        ✉

The construct <foo<bar> is valid in HTML (it is an example of the rather obscure “Shorttags” feature) but its use is not recommended. In most cases, this is a typo that you will want to fix. If you really want to use shorttags, be aware that they are not well implemented by browsers.

        # Error Line 228, Column 5: end tag for "table" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.

        </div><div class="ditto_summaryPost">

        ✉

You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
        # Info Line 226, Column 0: start tag was here.

        <table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" style

So take a look at those and see if that solves it.

hi thanks for the quick response.

          so with

OK looking at the validation for the page the things I would look at are

should i change the micklegate bar page itself? and not sure what i’m adding in or out of it?

          and:

The construct <foo<bar> is valid in HTML (it is an example of the rather obscure “Shorttags” feature) but its use is not recommended. In most cases, this is a typo that you will want to fix. If you really want to use shorttags, be aware that they are not well implemented by browsers.
is there something i can change this to so it’s not a typo but still works?

          and:

          # Error Line 228, Column 5: end tag for "table" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.

          </div><div class="ditto_summaryPost">

again am i changing ditto, my template or again the results? i’m sorry but i’m finding it all a bit messy and hard to understand. The site uses cutomised templates and snippets, chunks etc from the default installation which has made a bit of a mess but it’s the only way we could get it up with our lack of experience.

the other thing is it must just be pages such as micklegate bar or other attractions themselves need altering as most pages are ok. so something different is occuring on this attractions page...

Both page have lots of errors:
            http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.insideyork.co.uk%2Fguest-houses.html
            and
            http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.insideyork.co.uk%2Fattractions

            try fixing those

            like this one:
            <a href=ghosthuntofyork><div class="randomAd"><img src="assets/images/sponsors/l...

            2 errors in one line
            first href=ghosthuntofyork you forgot the "" (href="ghosthuntofyork")
2nd: you put a div (block element) inside an a (inline element) use span instead and set it to block in css

            and lots more

I think if you correct the errors that the page wil work fine again

if you used ditto then add :notags to the placeholder to strip the tags like this: [+content:notags+] that way if you limit the content to x characters the start tags wil remain but no closing tags.

            Good luck fixing this
