Hi,
I’m looking at various CMS systems to implement a pagination solution for DTP. MODx, looks very promising and customizable, but I still need to learn more about it.
In a nutshell, I want to use a CMS to define my page (document) layout, enter text content and pictures/images location, and then export everything to XML. The XML file would contain the raw data (text and pictures location) and the page layout. I don’t care about style since the styling would be done in another tool (InDesign for instance).
Is this been experimented in a MODx environment before? Would MODx be a good candidate for this kind of application and if so how (in MODX terminology)?
I’m looking forward for any inputs/ideas for this community.. Thanks all in advance for your time....
Thanks for your replies so far...
ganeshXL:
- By pagination, I mean mostly layout of the magazine...
- The whole idea is to allow multi users to edit pages of a catalogue (based on role) through a web-client and then feed those changes to InDesign via XML. I’d like to have a central repository (I’ll need to convert XML to SQL I guess....) for both the CMS (MODx) and InDesign. Does that make sense?
- Regarding the pics, I’d like to store the path pointing to the high res pictures...
Very interesting idea, Eclipse!
I’m not a programmer so I’m afraid it must be a solid work to let the text flow over pages, to define 2-3-4 column pages with margins & gutter and whatever more!
Did you make experiments with html->xml->InD conversion yet?
Really, I’m curious about how this job will do! Good luck for it!
