I have previously installed and successfully used MODx on quite a few sites now and it has always been pretty simple. Anyway, I am trying to implement it for a new site where the domain and hosting has been purchased from WebFusion. It appears that the hosting should should be ok for this but I cannot get connection with the DB - Connection to host: failed!

I read a post that mentioned the DB name should not have underscores etc, however the database name is out of my hands as it is created automatically as is the password and username. and I can no longer find that post. If someone can help it will be very much appreciated. I will keep on looking.

    Thanks

Names can have underscore no problem. I am on a cPanel server and they automatically add a user_dbname format to the names. I have not had any problems with this, so the problem would be something else. I would confirm with the host what the db server is. In most casses it will be localhost but sometimes it will be on a different location like mysql.domain.tld or something like that.

finally sorted it! I had phoned through to the provider who ensured me the names would be correct and that they do not offer any kind of support to anything other than their services. I understand that but they were still very unhelpful, finally found something relating to installing wordpress on the server where it tells you to add the whole name of database and user which is found hidden away.

to cut a long story short all sorted

        Thanks!
