What does "HTML entities" widget do?

I miss some explanation about some widgets in the http://modxcms.com/widgets.html"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">online documentation.

For example, what does the widget "HTML entities" do?

And, which is the widget to be chosen if I want the TV to be displayed as it is, without any change or "formating"? Can I leave the "widget" field in "blank" for that TV?

I am sure I can get the answers to these EASY questions by experimenting, but it would be nice if those details were included in the documentation.

Leave the output widget blank for raw output.

I have never used the html entities widget, but I would expect it to work the same as the php function of the same name.
