    Hi guys,

I have a project I am scoping with a client that is a bespoke web app which in simple terms manages a project from quote to completion via various specified stages of completion with automation of emails being sent to various involved parties etc. I am wondering if MODx would offer a good base solution to build this with - I have used MODx for many many years to build sites - but the prospect of building a bespoke app using it doesnt sit well with me as I cant quite grasp how it could be done... e.g. how to code the automated tasks once a user completes a step in the process etc..

Does anyone have any thoughts / resources / info they might be able to share?

    Cheers,

    dubbs.

Hi Dubbs, I want to believe that you can do whatever you want with MODx, I mean, why not? you would have a lot of work already done, but at firs, is necessary to learn how MODx works. Just what I think.

Honestly, there are so many products out there already that do this very sort of thing quite well (i.e. https://www.teamwork.com and others like it) that the first thing I would wonder is if this is really something you want to build from scratch. That said, there really isn't anything you can't do with MODX, but what you're describing is far from simple, and would require a considerable amount of work. I'm sure you've though this through, but a fully bespoke product of this nature is a huge step, and I'd think long and hard, as I'm sure you probably have, whether using an existing product would get you close enough for horse shoes and hand grenades.

All that said, if a bespoke product is mandatory, for whatever reason, it could certainly be done with MODX. Depending on the details it may or may not be the best solution, but it certainly could be a solution.
