I am currently looking into building a website that will solely feature amateur & professional photography

There will be some information pages, a blog and the default contact stuff, but the main feature will be large scale galleries - the image count will be in the thousands

What I am looking for is a solution using MODX, if possible.

Has anyone here created such a site (or similar) and or have experience with advanced galleries and how to set them up in MODX ?

    The proposed requirements are:

Bulk upload - can also be completed via FTP
    Image management
Nested galleries e.g Birds => Birds of Prey => Eagles, Birds => Sparrows
    Tagging
Meta / Exif data read / write
Image Download - possibly in a choice of sizes
Gallery overview + individual photo page with all the Exif data + download

    Extras that might be needed:

Star rating / or any other rating
    Commenting - with admin control

Any help or ideas would be great
Please note: I am not a PHP'r and as such don't speak PHP smiley

p.s For some reason I don't get notification mails from the forum when someone posts an answer, so I will take a look at the post on a regular basis to see if anyone has posted. [ed. note: iusemodx last edited this post 10 years, 4 months ago.]

Don't you think (by looking at the specs) this is job for a professional PHP programmer?

          Ok - let's rephrase:
do you know any free PHP script (or CMS module, plugin etc.) that satisfies all/most of the requirements?
How about server efficiency - does it lazyload larger galleries, handles responsive images?
And finally - how it integrates with MODX (or any other CMS)?

I haven't as of yet looked for 3rd party scripts or other CMS solutions, simply because I wanted to know if anyone has experience using MODX for such a job

I know of getresources, getpage, collections, filelister etc. that have been used for galleries, but I don't know to what extent they are usable

Setting up a default template for a photo with commenting, rating etc. is not the problem, the problem is actually creating the galleries on the fly and reading the data

I am sure phpthumb or some other tool can be used for creating the previews and by rights, lazy loading shouldn't be a problem either

I have taken a look this and this, not much, but a start smiley

This is a photographer website that I did last autumn before leaving MODX ecosystem: http://goo.gl/ex6lY9
Evolution with customized MaxiGallery, PhpThumb and AdaptiveImages. Adding ratings, commenting, metadata handling etc. wouldn't be that much fun with MODX (no CMF/system-wide events for media uploading, no seamless AJAX handling, no Composer for ad-hoc usage of any PHP library or package - modern platform that I use right now has all this and more).

A few observations: FTP adds complexity without gaining anything over multifile AJAX upload, commenting and rating means you absolutely need to know basics about implementing them securely.

Daminion is a commercial service? Do anyone know how good is Coppermine Gallery these days?

There is an extra if I recall that will grab all the images from the FTP folders you specify and create the resources for them. I think its called myimages but I can't recall off hand. That might be a good place to start.
