MySQL problem? Site won't show

Hello everyone,

I have an old client whom haven't updated their site for a long time. Today they wrote to me that their site is down due to what the web-host calls an MySQL error.

The web-host says:
"You are using an MySQL function that no longer is in the newer versions of PHP. Have your programmer fix it..."

Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? I'm clueless...

You simply need to update the website to the latest version of whichever version you are using, either Evo or Revo

That should in theory get the site back up and running, as the latest versions of both systems support PHP5.4+

My client is STILL at version 1.03, I can see. Can I update the CMS from within the existing admin-panel in MODx? Or is there another more complicated way. Admittedly, I am no expert.

I presume you are talking about EVO.

You can't update it from the admin panel.

Take a look at the docs to see how to upgrade the system

In theory you should be able to update to the latest version "1.1", but as the system is so old, you might want to consider a "2" stage update:

1) Update to 1.0.15
2) Then update to 1.1

Always:

1) Backup all of the files you have on the server where the website lives
2) Backup the complete database

That way you have everything that is needed to restore if need be

A few methods:

1) post in the forum asking for free help with upgrading / updating
2) post in the forum specifically for a developer for commercial work
3) find a professional developer in your area (or not)

I would suggest you give it a go first, so long as you have backed everything up you can't go wrong, as the backup can be re-instated if necessary
