want to use captcha on a web signup form - copied (the site) from a modx installation that works fine. modx 0.9.6.1p2 in the new instance, captcha image does not display. click to refresh and the page locks up. after some troubleshooting i find that if i invoke the veriword.php file from the browser (see http://www.lsicc.org/manager/includes/veriword.php) i never get a response and finally get an internal server error. on sites that i have captcha working, when i invoke the veriword.php file, i get the captcha image.

gd & freetype are both enabled. other installations of 0.9.6.1p2 on the same server work with no issues. two other installations on the same server do not - invoking veriword.php causes an error.

any thoughts on the problem or where i might troubleshoot? have re-installed the manager files thinking something got missed on the upload.

    thanks, chas

my host had the solution - their reply:

TTF text has a problem with php4 and suphp so I changed your settings to php5 by adding the entry given below in the .htaccess file.

      AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php .htm .html

      everything is working now.
