I’m setting up an email form on a new site I’ve just started working on. I recreated the forms, styles, etc on my wamp server by copying them from a working form on my hosted server.

The form looks fine, field validation works etc. but when I submit the form to send the note I get this parse error.

    « MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

      PHP: 1.1404 s

I recently installed wamp server so this is the first time I’ve tried to send mail on this installation.

    phpMyAdmin - 2.10.1
    MySQL client version: 5.0.45

Is this a problem with the wamp server?

You need to leave the the ’dark side’ and start using Linux smiley

WAMP needs some configuring to work with your SMTP server. Check this forum for more information:

You should just need to edit the php.ini file and restart WAMP.

Thanks for looking at this. I now understand that wamp doesn’t include a mail server. Learned something new today. Thank you!

However, I did add my ISP SMTP server and return address to the php.ini file but nothing changed. I don’t really understand how this should work. I work at home so I’m not part of a network that has a mail server. So how would my local wamp server communicate with my ISP?

Why is a parse error produced? Seems so drastic/catastropic. I would expect a more graceful message if mail can’t be sent. Is this a modx behavior?

Do I have to install a local SMTP mail server and then put my wamp server online to test my email form? Can I do this all locally on my workstation? I don’t really want to open my workstation up to security issues, since I’m not really prepared for all that.

I really just want to test my site before I put it on the hosted server.

I know this is a lot, but I appreciate any help you can offer.

        Terry

PS regarding the dark side. . . I appreciate the sentiment but I’ll stay where I’m at for now. Thanks laugh

Most likely your ISP has outgoing SMTP mail blocked to prevent their clients from sending spam from their machines.

There are a number of mail programs for Windows; this one looks useful

If all you need is a simple contact form, you could try the SPForm snippet which can easily be configured to use any SMTP account you have on any server.

I’ll take a look at both of these options.

              Thank you both!
