Login stopped working

Hi there,

I have a site on which the login has suddenly stopped working. There is no error message, it just refreshes the page and stays on the login screen.

Any ideas?

Where did you check for error messages? Are you referring to an error message from the login snippet or did you check the MODX error log and the server error log as well?

What version of MODX?

The first thing to try is manually deleting all files in the core/cache directory (or use the ClearCache extra to do it for you).

Thanks for your suggestions, BobRay I deleted the core/cache files but that had no effect.
I'm not sure exactly what version it is - it's revo installed in 2015 so not that old.

When I say no error message I mean it doesn't say 'incorrect password' or anything like that. The login page just flickers and remains the same.

Any other suggestions?

Try turning on Chrome Dev. Tools (Ctrl-shift-i) and watching the Network tab as you try to log in. You can sometimes drill down to see the login processor's response, which may contain an error message (embedded in some ugly HTML).

Is the login processor login.js? I can't see any error messages on that

No, I was wrong about there being a dedicated login processor. If an error shows up, it should be in the first few requests made after you click on Submit at the login screen.

In fact if the error is in the login process, there shouldn't be more then two or three requests at most processed after you click on Submit.

I've tried compairing with a working site and they look identical, so I guess it's not a problem with the login process

You could try disabling all plugins in the modx_site_plugins table in the database, in case some plugin is causing the problem. Delete the cache files again after changing the values in the DB.

I think it could also be a problem with sessions at the host or a change the host has made in the .htaccess file.

Do you use Revo 2.5 and have you set anonymous_sessions to 0?
